The Project
The success of this project is based on carefully considered site planning. Choosing the largest lot in the area allowed for significant setback from the street, creating a true zone of tranquility and the necessary space to eventually accommodate a detached garage, pool, and expansive landscaped yard.
To address the specific challenges of a multigenerational home, the garage was designed as a natural separation between the two living units. This configuration preserves each unit’s autonomy while maintaining functional proximity. Following the same logic, the secondary unit’s terrace was positioned on the side rather than at the rear, eliminating any direct sightlines and ensuring daily comfort for the occupants.
The interior layout also accounts for evolving needs, particularly regarding mobility. Widened corridors, open volumes, and fluid circulation: every decision allows the home to adapt over time.
Our Vision for the Project
Our approach was based on creating spaces with strong character, where each architectural choice contributes to a living experience that is both functional and refined. Delivering memorable moments without ever sacrificing daily comfort.
From the entrance, the two-story volume and open staircase create immediate impact. The staircase becomes a structural element with its central steel stringer, open hardwood risers, and glass railing. This centerpiece draws the eye upward and highlights the height of the volumes. The glass-enclosed wine cellar, visible from the living area, adds distinctive character and understated elegance to the heart of the residence.
The interior finishes reflect the same attention to detail. Heated ceramic flooring on the main floor, enclosed prep kitchen, master suite with private terrace and walk-in shower. Each element combines sophistication with practical use.
The main entrance opens onto two levels and creates a sense of grandeur upon arrival. The central staircase, with its steel stringer, open hardwood risers, and glass railing, becomes a centerpiece that structures the entire home.
Integrated into the living area, it becomes a functional decorative element that reinforces the contemporary character of the whole.
The Priorities Established by Our Clients
We wanted a home that reflects who we are, incorporating the essentials from our current residence while improving certain aspects of daily life. The goal was to optimize overall functionality, particularly by adjusting the size of certain spaces and simplifying interior circulation.
The lot played a key role in our thinking. We were looking for a large lot offering significant setback from the street, tranquility, and the possibility of adding, over time, a detached garage, pool, and large landscaped yard.
The home’s entrance was also among the important elements for us. We wanted a striking arrival, open to two stories, that creates a sense of grandeur from the entrance. Finally, it was essential that the home be adapted for the long term for the parents, with open spaces, widened corridors, and fluid, safe circulation.
