The Project
The project began with the identification of a fully usable corner lot, a determining factor in meeting the occupants’ needs. This configuration allowed for the creation of two separate accesses—one for the house and one for the detached garage—while providing optimal outdoor space for daycare activities.
The house plan was then extensively customized to adapt the home to daily use. One bedroom was converted into a spacious mudroom, an entrance to the basement was created to allow direct outdoor access to the daycare and office, and several functional spaces were added to support both personal and professional life under one roof.
The outdoor landscaping completes the project with a covered terrace, an oversized deck, a three-sided fireplace, a 12-foot patio door, and turnkey grading. The entire design was conceived to provide functional, durable outdoor spaces that are well integrated into the property’s daily use.
Our Vision for the Project
The project vision was based on the desire to create a home with spaces that naturally connect with one another, both indoors and outdoors. The three-sided fireplace was strategically positioned to link the living spaces while establishing a warm and inviting atmosphere at the heart of the home.
The modern kitchen, characterized by black and wood contrasts, follows this same approach. It needed to be a central space, visually striking, yet perfectly integrated with the whole, in keeping with the desired contemporary style.
The outdoor landscaping was designed to last, with a covered terrace, a clearly defined relaxation area, and smooth circulation between the residential and professional entrances. This approach ensured functional use of outdoor spaces without disrupting daily life.
Finally, the lot layout was approached as a structural element of the project. The placement aimed to maximize the occupants’ privacy while providing a large dedicated space for the daycare in a safe and well-organized environment.

Priorities expressed by our clients
We wanted to truly expand our living spaces, both indoors and outdoors, so that the home would meet our daily needs as well as our long-term plans. It was essential to find a lot that would allow for a detached garage and a completely independent entrance for the daycare and office.
The separation between personal and professional life was among the non-negotiable elements. We wanted each sphere to have its place without encroaching on the other, while designing a durable property intended to become our retirement home over time.
The lot also needed to provide a safe environment for the daycare children while remaining pleasant and functional for our personal life. Having a large usable space that was well organized and easy to live in was at the heart of our priorities.
