The Impact of Interior Design in a Custom Construction Project

When it comes to custom construction, every detail matters. Beyond aesthetics, the interior design of your new home plays a central role during the planning phase. These elements define the unique character of your home, influence your daily well-being, and can even affect your property’s future value.

At Harmonie Construction, we place particular importance on the interior design and layout phase for all our base models, offering you the support of an interior designer from the start of your project so that you can customize it according to your tastes. This close collaboration between you, the interior design team, and our custom construction team ensures that each space will be not only visually appealing but also functional and tailored to your tastes and your family’s needs.

WHAT IS AN INTERIOR DESIGNER? WHAT IS THEIR ROLE?

An interior designer is a person passionate about aesthetics and visual harmony. She appreciates colors, different styles, but also the technical aspects of the profession. Indeed, interior design involves calculations and technical drawings, particularly when designing furniture. Clearly, this profession requires both artistic and mathematical skills. One must therefore appreciate this!

There are two main training paths to become an interior designer in Quebec. First, the interior design technical program offered in certain CEGEPs, such as Trois-Rivières, Montreal, and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. DEC programs are distinguished by their technical and comprehensive approach, including the use of design software and the study of the national building code. Then, there is the Bachelor’s degree in interior design, offered notably at the University of Montreal. This program is just as comprehensive as the technical training but places greater emphasis on creativity and interior design concepts.

Other equivalent training programs exist, but Harmonie Construction only works with certified designers, members of the Association of Interior Designers of Quebec. This site lists all certified members and designers, categorized by region.

The Impact of Interior Design on Comfort and Profitability

The impact of a good interior design and layout plan on your quality of life is undeniable. Well-thought-out spaces improve comfort, foster harmony, and facilitate interactions within your family. But beyond immediate comfort, a carefully planned interior design can also contribute to increasing the profitability of your investment.

By choosing durable materials, optimizing space utilization, and integrating modern and timeless design elements, your new home will retain its appeal and not go out of style over time, thereby strengthening its market value.

The Synergy between the Interior Designer and the Custom Construction Contractor: a Winning Partnership

The key to a successful custom construction project lies in the effective collaboration between the interior designer and the new construction contractor. This synergy allows for the alignment of aesthetic visions with the technical and budgetary realities of the project.

In interior design, we advocate for an integrated approach where our team of passionate designers works hand-in-hand with our construction team from the initial stages of project planning. This ensures consistency between the desired interior layout and its feasibility, avoids costly adjustments along the way, and guarantees that the final result will meet expectations.

A Well-Thought-Out Interior Design, a Strategic Approach

When considering the construction of your new home, interior design and layout should never be left to chance. A strategic approach to interior design is essential, not only to maximize daily living comfort but also to enhance your property’s market value.

Maximizing Comfort through Thoughtful Interior Design

Comfort in a new home extends far beyond the selection of finishes and materials. It begins with an effective home plan that is the result of serious consideration of the interior layout. The design of a home’s plans directly influences how you and your family interact in each space.

Judicious choices regarding room arrangement, efficient space utilization, and fluid circulation between areas contribute to forging a living environment that is both harmonious and practical.

When Aesthetics and Functionality Go Hand in Hand

The harmony between aesthetics and functionality is paramount in interior design, where each element must meet specific needs while contributing to the overall ambiance of the home. In the kitchen, for example, the choice of a quartz countertop is justified not only by its beauty and wide range of colors but also by its durability and ease of maintenance, which are essential for a space used daily.

For cabinetry, the adoption of trendy materials like polyester, valued for its uniform finish and wide variety of options, allows for the creation of a space that is both modern and durable. These design decisions aim not only to beautify the space but also to make it more practical and enjoyable for family interactions and daily activities.

By designing a living room that promotes natural light and good circulation, we ensure that the space will be both welcoming for family members and guests, and functional for daily life.

Enhancing Market Value through Interior Design and Layout

Beyond comfort and functionality, strategic residential interior design plays a key role in improving your home’s resale value. Homes that feature a coherent, modern, and adaptable interior design are not only more attractive to potential buyers but can also command a higher price in the real estate market.

By working with a custom construction contractor who thinks strategically, you benefit from expertise in creating interior spaces that not only meet your current needs but are also designed with an eye toward the future.

In summary, interior design and layout are far from being mere aesthetic considerations. They are at the heart of creating a comfortable, functional, and profitable home.

The entire Harmonie Construction project team is committed to guiding you through this exciting process, ensuring that every aspect of your new home contributes to creating the ideal living space for you and your family.

Interior Design Trends for a Modern Lifestyle

An Open Kitchen, the Main Hub of the Home

Open kitchens remain a predominant trend in interior design and modern home construction, serving as a hub for family life and entertaining guests. They offer a fluid space that facilitates communication and sharing between the kitchen and living areas. In terms of materials, quartz and granite countertops are favored for their blend of durability and elegance, thus meeting the needs of modern families seeking solutions that are both aesthetic and practical.

Recycled polyester cabinets, offering resistance and a variety of finishes, present themselves as an option for those wishing to combine style and functionality in their culinary space, but also represent an interesting eco-responsible alternative.

In the design of the ideal kitchen, the integration of walk-in pantries or hidden kitchens perfectly illustrates this trend. These spaces, designed for easy access and optimal organization, allow for concealing utensils and provisions, contributing to an orderly and welcoming kitchen.

The perfect kitchen is a modern kitchen where everything is in its place and easily accessible, without cluttering the space. This is where walk-in pantries and integrated storage solutions come into play. Not only do they offer generous space to store your provisions, but they also cleverly hide your small appliances and even your coffee station.

Thus, your kitchen remains orderly and welcoming, while being ultra-functional. It’s the ultimate trick to maintaining a neat aesthetic and promoting well-being, without sacrificing practicality.

The Concept of Minimalist Living Space in Custom Constructions

Minimalist interior design, centered on the idea of “less is more,” highlights clean, functional, and harmonious spaces. This concept relies on the judicious use of each element to create environments that are both aesthetic and practical, where every object has its purpose. In a minimalist living room, the space is not cluttered with superfluous decorations but is arranged to optimize comfort and conviviality, fostering quality moments with family or friends.

The creation of such a space requires close collaboration between your contractor, the interior designer team, and the client. Together, while taking into account the possibilities and limitations of the space, the construction contractor provides their technical expertise to ensure that the design ideas can be realized. The designer, for their part, guides the client through aesthetic and functional choices, ensuring that every decision contributes to creating the perfect minimalist concept. The client plays an active role in this process.

The Master Bathroom, a Relaxation Space

The master bathroom, in current interior design and layout trends, has become much more than a simple functional space: it becomes a true oasis for relaxation, a private sanctuary where comfort and aesthetics meet to create an optimal relaxation experience. The addition of a freestanding tub in front of a window offering a magnificent view of your wooded lot, for example, accentuates this feeling of escape.

Even in a more confined space, with the contribution of the designer and your contractor, it is possible to create a relaxation area by applying intelligent design and layout principles that make the most of the available space.

This can include judicious choices of materials that evoke nature for a soothing atmosphere, lighting designed to mimic natural light and promote relaxation, and the installation of elements such as deep bathtubs or rain showers to transform daily routines into moments of pause and rejuvenation.

The Rise of Multi-Generational Homes: Interior Design Adapted for all Ages

With evolving family dynamics, multi-generational homes are experiencing growing popularity. This type of custom construction allows multiple generations to cohabit under one roof while maintaining independence and privacy. Common living spaces, such as open living rooms and large dining rooms, foster moments of conviviality. Concurrently, master suites and independent apartments offer private areas for each generation.

Interior design takes into account the specific needs of seniors, integrating elements such as ramps, wider doors, and adapted bathrooms. Non-slip materials and well-positioned lighting contribute to the safety and comfort of all occupants. Technological advancements also play a key role, with home automation systems to centrally control lighting, temperature, and security. Connected devices, such as health monitors and voice assistants, support the needs of elderly family members.

Adapting interior design to multi-generational families is a trend that combines functionality and aesthetics, creating living spaces that meet the needs of each generation.
